game dev networking optimisation

In my third year at uni we had a team games project. This was 2/3rds of the time in the second term, so worth a third of the year, and 13% of my degree!

We made a pixel art RTS/MMO inspired by games like Fallout, Command & Conquer, and agar.io!

I was lead programmer and most of my time was spent making architectural decisions, helping my team, doing networking (up to 100 players in one drop-in/drop-out lobby!), or writing GPU code to simulate massive hordes of rats (500k rats at 30fps!).
