Hello, I'm Murray!

This page serves as a CV of sorts. To see what I've made, go to the Things page.
Here's a quick introduction to me:

Work Experience

Research Assistant in Swarm Robotics

EMERGE Consortium, University of Bristol | Feb 2026 - Ongoing

Developing robot control and simulation software using C++ in a team of two. Performing automated warehouse logistics without existing infrastructure or centralised control.

Robot Systems Integration Engineer

SUPERIOT, University of Bristol | Jun 2025 - Dec 2025

Developed robot control and monitoring software in Python, and embedded software in C++ for low-power BLE devices. Software lead in a team of four. Presented work at ROSCon UK 2025.

Full Stack Developer (Intern & Contract)

Claymatic Games | June - September 2024

During my internship, I developed multiple systems from the ground up, being fully responsible for design, implementation, and deployment. I learned how to build systems where the requirements are made by someone else and not myself.

Due to the success of my work, Claymatic extended my role after the internship, giving me the task of developing a new system for handling signups for their beta program.

Murray joined Claymatic for a work placement and did an amazing job with very little guidance. Within the first day he was making considered changes to the codebase. He has implemented all of our backend services and helped get them ready for production. He also ran with some smaller tasks and expanded them into fully fledged systems such as achievement tracking and a novel system to generate player call-outs based on gameplay. I would definitely welcome him back should the opportunity arise in future.

Mentor, Open Day Rep

University of Bristol | June 2023 - Present

I’m working as a mentor on the Software Engineering Project unit - where students work in a team of five on a real client project for a year.

This involves weekly meetings where I help guide my assigned teams through their projects and provide advice on software engineering best practices and how to work well in a team, as well as providing feedback and raising any issues they have to the teaching staff.

I’ve additionally represented the University at numerous events such as open/offer-holder days, building tours, and induction labs.

Education

MEng Computer Science

University of Bristol | September 2022 - July 2026

I’m currently in my final year, expected to attain a first. Units have included Distributed Systems and High Performance Computing. I’ve been the lead programmer in two projects.

In second year I gained industry experience working in a team of five to develop a web application for a local business over the course of the year. You can read more about it here.

In third year I worked on a larger team project (worth twice as much), in which we developed a game. I was lead programmer and was responsible for the networking, and a custom GPU compute shader that could simulate hundreds of thousands of rats while maintaining a good framerate, alongside other programming work.

From a technical standpoint this game is beyond impressive. The amount of time, effort, and success that has gone into making this game run well given the amount of stuff happening is laudable.

Young Leader

Scouts | 2018 - 2019

I attended my local scout group for four years until I became too old to remain. I left as a much developed person - having gained valuable leadership and teamwork skills, and I wanted to give back to the community. I became a young leader, volunteering every week to plan and run sessions. In 2019 I started my GCSEs and left the group to focus on my studies, but stayed on as a reserve leader, helping out when needed.

Murray completed over a years volunteering with us in the role of a young leader. During this time he has attended regularly and been a significant support to the leadership team. He has engaged well with the young people running activities, games, and planning sessions during this time. Furthermore he has attended camps and introduced a new communication system into the group off his own back to aid our administration. It has been a pleasure to work with Murray during his time with us.

Teaching Assistant

My Primary School | 2015 - 2018

My interest in coding was sparked by my primary school’s coding club. When I left for secondary school I wanted to pass that passion onto other young people so I asked the school if I could volunteer as a teaching assistant. I helped run the club for three years, until the teacher running the club left and the club was disbanded.
